LEBANON’S FIREFIGHTERS ARE RESPONDING TO MORE WITH LESS
Lebanon’s emergency services face growing humanitarian demands while operating with limited funding, ageing equipment, inadequate training, and heavy reliance on volunteers. This leaves firefighters and civil defence teams without the capacity to respond safely and effectively to fires, humanitarian disasters, wildfires and other emergencies.

Emergency services under growing pressure
More than half a million people across Lebanon rely on emergency services, yet many municipalities rely primarily on volunteer firefighters to protect their communities.
Years of economic instability have made it difficult to replace vehicles, maintain essential equipment or invest in specialist training, leaving many rescue services with limited operational capability.

Project History
2016
FIRE AID and its partners begin strengthening fire safety and emergency response in Lebanon, delivering fire prevention training in refugee camps, wildfire response training, equipment familiarisation and virtual programmes for female firefighters.
2019
Two Bekaa Valley female volunteer firefighters attend the Women in the Fire Service development event in the UK. FIRE AID and Florian deliver life-saving equipment, including PPE used during the Beirut port explosion, Road Traffic Collision kits and ladders.

2020
FIRE AID partners with the World Bank, which funds a country-wide emergency response review. The review becomes the foundation for the programme's next phase of work.
Ongoing
Building on the World Bank review, work now goes beyond equipment: training in incident command, fire response, road traffic collisions and wildfire response, while strengthening coordination and resilience across Lebanon's emergency services.

FIRE AID works alongside the Lebanese Civil Defence, municipal fire services, Women in the Fire Service and international partners to strengthen emergency response through long-term partnerships, specialist training and safe, serviceable equipment.
Our work focuses on strengthening local capability beyond any single project. Vehicles and protective equipment are combined with locally relevant training, helping crews work more safely and strengthening the skills and systems needed for effective emergency response.
By aligning with national response strategies and humanitarian frameworks, we are working to bolster Lebanon’s capacity to handle crises and maintaining vital social stability. The project is delivered with the full support of the Lebanese Civil Defence.
