PROTECTING COMMUNITIES IN A CHANGING CLIMATE
Kenya's firefighters are protecting communities facing a changing pattern of emergencies. Hotter temperatures, prolonged droughts and changing rainfall are increasing the frequency of wildfires, while rapid urbanisation, flooding and road traffic collisions are placing growing demands on county fire and rescue services. Working alongside Africa Fire Mission, FIRE AID is helping strengthen local capability through specialist training, sustainable equipment and long-term partnerships.

CLIMATE CHANGE INCREASES THE PRESSURE on kenya’s fire service
Fire and rescue capability has been unable to keep pace with the growing fire risk facing communities across Kenya.
All 47 county fire and rescue services continue to operate with limited operational vehicles, personal protective equipment and specialist rescue equipment, while access to advanced training varies significantly across the country. In rural counties, long response distances mean communities are often the first to respond before firefighters arrive, making local resilience and fire prevention as important as emergency response itself.

Project History
2012
Africa Fire Mission begins building sustainable fire and rescue capability across Kenya through national fire academies, leadership development and specialist training.
2024
FIRE AID, funded by Dubai Civil Defence, donates a new 4x4 wildfire vehicle to Wajir county, strengthening specialist capability in wildfire response, incident command, technical rescue and road traffic collision rescue.

More than 500 firefighters and emergency medical responders attend the Kenya Fire & EMS Symposium, as community fire prevention programmes continue to expand firefighters' role as educators as well as responders.

Further training on the donated wildfire vehicle is delivered by the Africa Fire Mission team, alongside station-based sessions on getting the best use out of all their equipment, including water refilling procedures. Fire prevention outreach continues to reach communities directly.
